Description
The Powell River #697 is a GMD SW900 switcher locomotive, built in May 1956 by General Motors Diesel (GMD), the Canadian subsidiary of EMD, in London, Ontario. Originally Midland Railway of Manitoba #1, it later became BC Hydro #931 before being sold to MacMillan Bloedel / Catalyst Paper, Powell River (renumbered 697). It has a B-B configuration (4 powered axles), an EMD 8-567C engine, D15C main generator, D37B traction motors, 900 HP, and was used for industrial switching.
